May 28, 2025: The Dag Hammarskjold award will be given posthumously to Havildar Sanjay Singh and Brig. Amitabh Jha.

In honor of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers this week, the UN will posthumously honor two Indian peacekeepers who died while serving under the UN banner last year.
At a solemn ceremony here on May 29 in honor of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, Brigadier Amitabh Jha, who served with the UN Disengagement Observer Force, and Havildar Sanjay Singh, who was assigned with the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, will receive the Dag Hammarskjold medal posthumously, according to a statement.
When it comes to uniformed personnel for UN Peacekeeping, India ranks fourth.

In Abyei, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, Somalia, South Sudan, and Western Sahara, it presently sends about 5,300 military and police personnel to support UN peace operations.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will lay a wreath in remembrance of the more than 4,400 UN peacekeepers who have died since 1948 during festivities marking Peacekeepers Day at the global organization's headquarters.

Additionally, 57 military, police, and civilian peacekeepers who died while serving under the UN flag last year will receive posthumous Dag Hammarskjold Medals under the direction of Guterres.

In addition, the Secretary-General will deliver the UN Woman Police Officer of the Year honor to Superintendent Zainab Gbla of Sierra Leone and the 2024 Military Gender Advocate of the Year award to Squadron Leader Sharon Mwinsote Syme of Ghana.

They are both members of the UN Interim Security Force in Abyei.
Guterres presented the esteemed "2023 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award" to Major Radhika Sen, who was a member of the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, last year.
