Israel on Tuesday (June 17, 2025): Five days after its surprise attack on Iran's military and nuclear program, Israel appeared to be expanding its air campaign against Tehran on Tuesday, June 17, as the United States. An ominous message from President Donald Trump urging the city's inhabitants to flee was posted online. Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday. The MEA stated that some Indians have been assisted in leaving Iran through the Armenian border. Israel’s military also claimed on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) it had killed Ali Shadmani, who it identified as Iran’s wartime chief of staff and said was the most senior military commander.
Israel asserts that it must launch a comprehensive assault on Iran's nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment facilities, ballistic missile program, and top military leaders in order to stop its long-standing adversary from developing nuclear weapons. Since Friday, at least 224 people have died as a result of the strikes.
Trump is accused of "pouring oil" on Iran, and the Israel-China conflict China said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump was "pouring oil" on the growing conflict between Israel and Iran after he told people in Tehran to "immediately evacuate." When asked about Trump's remarks at a regular news conference, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated, "Fanning the flames, pouring oil, making threats, and mounting pressure will not help to promote the de-escalation of the situation, but will only intensify and widen the conflict." Trump claims that his departure from the G7 summit has "nothing to do" with the Israel-Iran ceasefire.
Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his early departure from the G7 summit has “nothing to do with” working on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, refuting comments by French President Emmanuel Macron who said that the U.S. president made a ceasefire proposal.
Mr. Macron mistakenly said that “I left the G7 Summit in Canada to go back to D.C. to work on a ‘cease fire,'" Mr. Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday as he left the G7 summit in Canada to return to Washington.
After Iran's missile warning, booms were heard over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. After air raid sirens sounded in several parts of Israel and the military warned of incoming Iranian missiles, loud booms were heard over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on Tuesday, according to AFP journalists. According to a statement released by the military, "a short while ago, sirens sounded in several areas across Israel following the identification of missiles launched from Iran toward the State of Israel." It added that the air force was “operating to intercept and strike where necessary to eliminate the threat.”
Around 20 minutes later, the army released a statement saying people were allowed to leave protected spaces in several areas across the country.
There were multiple locations where "reports of fallen projectiles were received," according to the report.
