July 11, 2025: A local court in Gurugram on Friday sent Deepak Yadav, 49, to one-day police custody after he allegedly shot and killed his 25-year-old daughter, Radhika Yadav, a former national-level tennis player.
The court termed the case a “serious matter” requiring an in-depth investigation.
SHO Vinod Kumar said: "We have already told you about the motive... he was angry over the tennis academy (run by her daughter Radhika Yadav). When asked if there was an honor killing angle, the answer was no, nothing like that. We had asked for two-day remand."
The incident occurred on Thursday morning around 10:30 am at their home in the upscale Sushant Lok area, where Deepak allegedly fired five rounds at his daughter while she was cooking breakfast. Three of the bullets hit her in the back, resulting in her death.
According to Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar, Radhika had been running a tennis academy in Sector 57, which reportedly became a point of contention between her and her father.
“Initial investigation reveals that Deepak had objected to Radhika managing the academy and had asked her several times to shut it down,” said the officer. The murder weapon, a licensed revolver owned by Deepak, has been seized.
Deepak Yadav, during police interrogation, confessed to the murder, reportedly stating that he was frustrated by ongoing arguments with his daughter and felt demeaned by suggestions that he was living off her earnings.
Investigators have uncovered significant details about Deepak Yadav’s financial standing. He reportedly earns between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh per month from multiple rental properties across Gurugram and owns a luxury farmhouse. According to a resident of his native village, Wazirabad, Deepak is known locally as a wealthy landlord, reports agency.
Police are also examining other possible motives and circumstances, including Radhika’s recent involvement in a music video, which her father allegedly objected to and had asked her to delete from social media. In addition, her mother is being questioned by authorities to determine her role and whereabouts during the incident. Radhika was remembered as a dedicated athlete and entrepreneur, with many expressing grief and disbelief over the tragic incident.
