July 19, 2025: The Congress said on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should now himself make a clear and categorical statement in Parliament on the claims made by US President Donald Trump over the past 70 days regarding the conflict between India and Pakistan. Following what was reportedly stated by Trump, "We stopped a lot of wars," the opposition party made the assertion. And what was going on in India and Pakistan was serious. In the air, planes were being shot down. Actually, I believe five jets were shot down. “However, India and Pakistan were fighting, and they were going back and forth, and it got bigger and bigger, and we got it solved through trade. We stated that you want to enter into a trade agreement. According to reports, the US President stated, "We're not making a trade deal if you're going to be throwing around weapons, maybe nuclear weapons, both very powerful nuclear states." Just two days before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins, Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh stated that "the Trump missile gets fired" for the 24th time with the same two messages. He made the observation that Trump had stated once more that the United States had stopped the war between India and Pakistan, which is a nation with nuclear weapons. He also stated that the US President reiterated his statements that there would not be a trade agreement if the war continued. Ramesh pointed out that Trump stated that India and Pakistan must agree to an immediate ceasefire if they want a trade agreement with the United States. Ramesh stated, "The sensational new revelation by President Trump this time around is that it's possible that five jets were shot down."
The leader of the Congress made the following statement: "The prime minister, who has had years of friendship and hugplomacy with President Trump going back to Howdy Modi in September 2019 and Namaste Trump in February 2020, has to now himself make a clear and categorical statement in Parliament on what President Trump has been claiming over the past 70 days." During the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament, the Congress has been requesting that Modi respond to President Trump's claims about a "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. He has repeated his claim that he helped settle the tensions between India and Pakistan on multiple occasions since May 10, when he posted on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire after a long night of talks mediated by Washington.
However, India has consistently maintained that direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries led to the agreement on the cessation of hostilities with Pakistan. Modi made it clear to Trump in a nearly 35-minute phone call last month that India does not accept mediation and will "never accept" it. He also said that the talks between the Indian and Pakistani militaries on the cessation of military actions were started at Islamabad's request. In response to the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, focusing on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. After four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes, India and Pakistan came to an agreement on May 10 to end their conflict.
