July 29, 2025: According to police on Monday, a 17-year-old girl in this area was allegedly killed by her family over a love affair and secretly buried in a local cemetery. Six members of her family have been detained, and a minor has been placed in a juvenile facility. In a statement, Superintendent of Police Suraj Rai said a 17-year-old Dalit boy and a girl of the same age from the Muslim community were in a relationship and had eloped to Himachal Pradesh on July 12, where the boy was employed.

They were later brought back to the village by the girl's family. According to SP Rai, the girl's family allegedly strangled her on July 22 and then buried her body in the village cemetery claiming she had tuberculosis. After receiving permission from the district magistrate, police exhumed the body on Saturday in response to a complaint. A post-mortem was conducted by a panel of two doctors and the entire process was videographed.

After Matloob, the girl's uncle, provided crucial information during questioning, the investigation took a new turn. The girl's father, brother, two maternal uncles, two paternal uncles, and a juvenile relative have all been detained by police as a result of the findings.

According to the SP, the cloth that was allegedly used in the murder has also been found. He added that the boy had sustained injuries during the incident and fled back to Himachal Pradesh out of fear. Because he was there when the crime occurred, he is being brought back for questioning. Given the gravity of the case, police have launched searches to track down other suspects involved, the SP said.
