
July 19, 2025: After a day-long suspension due to heavy rain and landslides in Kashmir, the Amarnath Yatra resumed on Friday with a fresh batch of over 7,900 pilgrims leaving Jammu for the twin base camps of the 3,880m-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas. According to officials, the yatra also resumed from the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir. The 16th group of 7,908 pilgrims, which included 5,957 men, 1,613 women, 26 children, and 310 sadhus and sadhvis, left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here in 261 vehicles for the twin base camps between 3:30 and 4:25 a.m., according to officials. They were escorted by CRPF and police personnel. They stated that the first pilgrim convoy, consisting of 2,879 pilgrims and 92 vehicles, left for the shorter but steeper 14-kilometer Baltal route in the Ganderbal district. The second pilgrim convoy, consisting of 5,029 pilgrims and 169 vehicles, is completing the yatra via the traditional Pahalgam route, which is 48 kilometers long and runs through the Anantnag district. Since July 2, 1,09,461 pilgrims have left the Jammu base camp for the Valley as a result. when the first group was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. From Jammu, which was transformed into a "city of divinity," enthusiastic pilgrims left with religious fervor to Amarnath amid chants of "Bum Bum Bhole" and "Har Har Mahadev." Over 4,000 new devotees arrived in Jammu from various parts of the country to get themselves registered. There is a huge rush at the counters for on-the-spot registration. They were housed in various facilities for lodging.
