July 21, 2025: Jitendra Singh stated that in the region, peace was no longer purchased through appeasement ahead of the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which removed the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir. Singh stated in an interview with a news agency that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have become more integrated with the rest of the country since Article 370 was lifted from the region. The fact that there is a lot of mental union taking place is something that is rarely discussed. For example, a citizen from Jammu and Kashmir looked at himself as someone different because he had been conditioned like that in his grooming. According to Singh, there is now a sense of belonging. He stated that over the past six years, a number of laws that were not applicable to Jammu and Kashmir due to Article 370 have been implemented. Singh stated that previous governments attempted to engage in negotiations with Pakistan in an effort to win them over, as well as reach out to separatists, but ultimately failed. "I believe the government of Prime Minister Modi deviated significantly from this. The result is that even the erstwhile separatists have fallen in line. We are now in a position where appeasement is no longer necessary to obtain peace. He stated, "It is no longer a peace purchased at the conditions of the others." “It is a peace by the preference of the government in India or the people of India,” Singh said.
In accordance with Article 370 of the Constitution, the Union government abolished Jammu and Kashmir's special status in August 2019 and created two union territories within the state. According to Singh, J&K daughters were subjected to discrimination because they lacked rights to their parents' property if they married outside the state. He stated, "This is no longer the case now," and added that the repeal of Article 370 ensured that Jammu and Kashmir was subject to the same laws as the rest of the country. He said refugees from Pakistan too were deprived of citizenship despite the same section of population giving India two prime ministers and one deputy prime minister — Inder Kumar Gujral and Manmohan Singh, and LK Advani, respectively.
“This is a huge, huge unraveling, not only of democracy and the Constitution but also of human dignity standards. So, all that stands corrected,” Singh said.
The minister said even among common citizens of J&K, there is a sense of belonging with the rest of the country. According to Singh, "that is the reason you see the majority of the youth from Jammu and Kashmir are doing very well for themselves across the sectors, across the country." He claimed that development in Jammu and Kashmir had been disrupted by terrorism. “Many of the projects, particularly in Kashmir valley, got stalled because of the conditions that were there. In 1972, rail arrived in J&K for the first time. However, after that, we had to wait for more than fifty years. Singh stated, "Prime Minister Modi came in once more with a firm resolve to take the train to the Kashmir valley."
