July 28, 2025: Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta virtually inaugurated projects worth Rs 180.24 crore on Sunday. An event was held by the Kargil district administration to welcome Gupta on his first visit to Kargil since taking over as L-G Ladakh's leader.
The L-G practically laid the groundwork for a number of projects, including the inauguration of a 30m-span steel plate girder bridge of Brakfos Ayet Hagnis, the steel motorable bridge over the Lungnak river at Testa Lungnak, the widening and upgrading of Namsuru Tangole Road, and a 300m double-lane motorable bridge over the Suru river with a pedestrian path on both sides.
L-G Gupta stated in his address to the gathering that the inauguration and laying of the foundation stones for these development projects in Kargil demonstrate that the region is on the right path to development. He also said that the UT administration would work together to meet the hopes and expectations of the Kargil people.
The L-G informed the gathering about his meetings with a large number of delegations during his visit to Kargil and Drass and their positive feedback on various development activities taken by the UT administration and the Hill Councils.
He said that everyone should work together to develop Kargil and look into every option. The L-G stated that the opening of the Zoji La Tunnel would be a moment to cherish for the people of Ladakh when the tunnel is opened for traffic for year-round connectivity, highlighting that road and air connectivity would be his priority. He stated that collaboration with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation is being made to address the issue of civil aviation in Kargil. During his visit to Ladakh, the L-G stated that one of his top priorities is the growth of tourism and that efforts would be made to improve road connectivity in order to provide tourists with a seamless experience.
