July 29, 2025: On August 5, the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 and the division of the former state into two Union Territories (UTs), the Congress plans to begin organizing protests.
During a press conference in Jammu, J&K Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra announced fresh schedule of protests, hunger strike and outreach programmes to intensify the statehood movement of the party. Additionally, the party had recently held a "Delhi Chalo" program. On August 5, according to Karra, the party will hold peaceful protests in all districts.
According to what he stated, "it will be observed as a black day, and a sit-in will be held at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, in addition to all district headquarters." Karra stated that a massive outreach campaign will be launched on August 1 to seek public support for statehood.
He was flanked by senior leaders, including working president of the J&K Congress Raman Bhalla. He stated that the party would begin a day-long hunger strike at both party headquarters on August 9 and continue it until August 20, Rajiv Gandhi's birthday.
Karra stated that the first phase of the statehood struggle under the banner of "Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq," which included the Delhi Chalo march, Srinagar Chalo march, Jammu Chalo march, and finally Delhi Chalo march, remained successful with the full support of the party's national leadership and drew the attention of the country's entire political spectrum toward "our legitimate demand for statehood."
He stated, "Now the party shall further intensify the struggle in various democratic modes of protests, dharnas, hunger strikes, and mass contact program in order to create pressure on the BJP government to fulfill the commitments to restore full statehood at the earliest." He also stated that the party would organize mass contact programs.
