
July 29, 2025: According to data provided by the government, the number of domestic tourist visits (DTVs) to Jammu and Kashmir between January and June of this year was more than 95 lakh. In response to a question regarding whether the Centre is aware of the decline in tourist footfall and business losses in Jammu and Kashmir during the peak tourist season following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat provided the data in a written response. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi also asked if any assessment was made by the government on its economic impact on local tourism-dependent stakeholders.
Shekhawat stated, "The Ministry of Tourism has not conducted such an assessment on the economic impact on local tourism-dependent stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir." He provided year-by-year tabulated data for domestic tourist visits (DTVs) and foreign tourist visits (FTVs) between 2020 and 2025 in his response. This data is provided by the state tourism department.
The most recent data from the Jammu and Kashmir tourism department indicates that between January and June of 2025, there will be a total of 19,570 DTVs and 95,92,664 FTVs.
The previous four years' DTVs were as follows: 2,35,24,629 in 2024; 2,06,79,336 in 2023; 1,84,99,332 in 2022; 1,13,14,920 in 2021; and 25,19,524 in 2020. FTVs were 65,452 in the year 2024; 55,337 in the year 2023; 19,985 in the year 2022; 1,650 in the year 2021; 5,317 in the year 2020; and 19,570 in the period from January to June of 2025.
According to Shekhawat, the Ministry of Tourism has taken a number of steps to promote the tourism industry throughout the nation, including in Jammu and Kashmir.
