
July 30, 2025: The killing of a Gujjar youth on July 24 that sparked political uproar in the union territory has been investigated by the J&K administration. On Thursday, police allegedly pursued drug dealers in the Satwari area, resulting in the death of Parvez Ahmad, a 21-year-old Jammu native. The Gujjar community has protested his death, with the young man's family claiming that the police killed an "innocent" person in a "staged" encounter. Through a public notice, the inquiry officer, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Manu Hansa of Jammu South, has invited anyone with relevant information, evidence, or statements regarding the July 24 events that led to Mohammad Parvez Ahmed alias Bachi's death to submit them. "It is hereby notified for the information of the general public that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the circumstances that led to the death of Parvez Ahmed," reads the SDM's public notice. The notice read, "Anyone having knowledge, information, evidence, or any other input related to the incident is hereby requested to come forward and submit the same before the undersigned (SDM Jammu South) in order to conduct a fair and transparent inquiry." “Statements, information or evidence (oral or written) may be submitted in person or in writing to the Inquiry Officer (Sub Divisional Magistrate, Jammu South) in his office during office hours by or before August 4. It also stated that information can be shared at the email address [email protected] or the phone number 9484002110. The SDM, in the notice, assured that the identity of individuals providing information or evidence, if desired, will be kept confidential upon request.
He stated that the notice was issued for the sake of justice and to ensure that all pertinent facts are recorded for a fair and transparent conclusion to the incident investigation.
