Aug 5, 2025: Since last evening, heavy rains have caused widespread landslides and flooding in the Himachal Pradesh district of Mandi, severely disrupting road connectivity and daily life.
The Kiratpur-Manali National Highway (NH-3), a key arterial route between Mandi and Kullu, is currently blocked at multiple locations due to landslides and continuous shooting stones.
Similar circumstances have rendered inaccessible the alternative route via Kataula–Kamand. Although extensive restoration efforts have been initiated by the authorities, incessant rainfall and unstable terrain are stymieing progress. Additional road closures in the district have exacerbated the situation. Near Kainchi Mod, the Mandi-Dharampur highway via Kotli is blocked, and the Mandi-Jogindernagar highway is also blocked near Mandi.
The Mandi-Rewalsar road near Lohardi has been affected, and landslides and waterlogging have been reported on several link roads throughout the district. The flooding in the Balh area of Mandi has made it even more difficult for people and emergency services to move around there.
The Beas River and its tributaries are currently in spate due to the incessant downpour, increasing the risk of flash floods in low-lying regions.
Residents and visitors to Mandi are being urged to avoid riversides and landslide-prone areas by Mandi Police in public advisories. Restoration equipment has been deployed to clear debris and reopen the affected routes, and emergency response teams are on high alert. Local administration is closely monitoring the situation, and regular updates are expected as conditions evolve.
Authorities should continue to be on the lookout because the weather service has predicted that there will be more rain for the next few hours. Due to the extensive damage caused by the rain-triggered events, which have impacted transportation, communication, and essential services, the residents of the Mandi district are facing a great deal of difficulty. Travelers are urged to strictly adhere to local authorities' and on-the-ground personnel's instructions.
