No reported vehicle issues from 20% ethanol blend so far
Ethanol blending cuts oil imports and emissions
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday dismissed concerns over ethanol-blended petrol, challenging critics to produce even a single instance of it causing vehicle problems.
Speaking at a session during the Business Today India@100 Summit, Gadkari said no complaints had been reported so far and accused detractors of spreading misinformation about the government’s ethanol-blending programme.
Has any vehicle in the nation experienced issues as a result of using gasoline blended with 20% ethanol? Just name one,” he said, asserting that the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) had issued statements expressing support for the rollout. He continued, "There is no example of any car experiencing issues due to ethanol-blended gasoline." Gadkari also highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of ethanol blending. By reducing the country’s crude oil import bill and curbing vehicular emissions, the programme, he said, supports both energy security and climate goals.
He pointed out that ethanol production has created new income opportunities for farmers as well. The price of a quintal of corn was Rs 1,200. He said, "Now it is used to make ethanol, and it sells for Rs 2,600 per quintal." He added that this price increase was directly helping the incomes of rural farmers who work in agriculture.
