Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s ‘seed ball project’ in World Book of Records

Aug 11, 2025: Arya Rajendran S, the mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, stated that the "seed ball project" achieved a place in the World Book of Records.

According to Rajendran's post on Facebook, the London-based World Book of Records has cited the initiative, the mayor, and the students involved. She stated that the World Book of Records would issue certificates bearing the names of each of the 6,000 students who participated in the project.

"Organizing Seed Ball Movement aimed at promoting reforestation, biodiversity, and community-based environmental action by dispersing four lakh seed balls with the participation of 6,000 students in three hours on August 9, 2025 at Putharikandam Maithanam,

Thiruvananthapuram," read the certificate that Rajendran was presented with. In her Facebook post, she also mentioned that the Thiruvananthapuram corporation had received the UN Habitat Global Award for sustainable development activities last year. She also included a picture of the certificate.

She stated, "The people of this state receive all of these awards." On August 9, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan officially launched the seed ball project.
