Aug 18, 2025: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, declared on Monday that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is a "new weapon" of "vote chori" and pledged to uphold the "one person, one vote" rule. He made the remarks in a post on his WhatsApp channel about his meeting with a group of people whose names had been removed from the SIR list in Bihar after voting in the previous Lok Sabha election. At the beginning of his Vote Adhikar Yatra on Sunday in Sasaram, Gandhi met the group. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha wrote in Hindi alongside a picture of the meeting, "SIR is a new weapon of vote theft." Coincidentally, these people standing with me in this picture are ‘living’ proof of this theft.”
He stated, "All of them had cast their vote in the elections for the Lok Sabha in 2024, but by the time the elections for the Bihar assembly came around, their identity and existence were erased from the democracy of India." "Are you aware of their identity? Raj Mohan Singh, 70, is a farmer and retired soldier; Umravati Devi, 35, is a Dalit and a laborer; Dhanjay Kumar Bind, 30; Sita Devi, 45; Raju Devi, 55; Mohmuddin Ansari, 52; is a woman and a former MNREGA laborer; and Mohmuddin Ansari, 52. They are being punished for being "Bahujan" and poor through the "collusion" of the BJP and the Election Commission; even our soldiers were not spared, Gandhi stated. He continued, "They will not have a vote, identity, or rights." He stated, "They are unable to fight against the system's conspiracy due to social discrimination and economic conditions. We stand here with them to protect the most basic right of "one person, one vote." This is a question of rights and of everyone’s participation in a democracy, he said, adding that “we will not let it end under any circumstances”.
As their Voter Adhikar Yatra entered its second day, Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, and Mukesh Sahani of the Vikassheel Insan Party prayed at the Devkund Surya Mandir in this location. The Yatra is expected to arrive in Gaya this evening after departing Kutumba. Gandhi, who was departing Sasaram on a 1,300-kilometer "Voter Adhikar Yatra" on Sunday, had stated that the INDIA bloc would not permit their "latest conspiracy" to steal Bihar polls through SIR of electoral rolls to succeed. Additionally, Gandhi had accused the Election Commission of "stealing" elections in conjunction with the BJP.
The yatra will come to an end on September 1 with a rally in Patna after 16 days. Similar to Gandhi's Manipur to Mumbai Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra prior to the Lok Sabha elections, the yatra is being carried out on foot and in a vehicle. It will pass through Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra and Ara.
