Aug 18, 2025: By participating in the FIT India Sundays on Cycle initiative from his home village of Hanol in Palitana, Gujarat, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya issued a clarion call to all citizens to adopt an active lifestyle. The cycling initiative, which was started by the Hon'ble Sports Minister in December 2024, has been organized in over 46,000 locations and has attracted more than 8 lakh participants. Continuing its mission to build a healthier, pollution-free India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organised a special edition of 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' today in partnership with the National Cadet Corps across 5000 locations nationwide. Around 3000 Namo Fit India Clubs also participated in the event.
Mandaviya urged other villagers to utilize the carbon credit feature by downloading the FIT India mobile app. "I would urge everyone to download the FIT India mobile app and check how much carbon is being saved by cycling to work or going around the village. The app has been developed so that it gives you all information about your health from a distance, including the time taken to the heart rate, etc., which is beneficial for monitoring one's health. Cycling is a great tool for fighting obesity and a solution to pollution. I would ask everyone to become part of our Fit India Sundays on Cycle movement," Mandaviya said in Hanol as quoted by a SAI Media press release.
Over 1200 enthusiastic cyclists rode around the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, where they took part in Zumba, meditation, and yoga classes, as well as a rope-skipping activity that Dr. Shikha Gupta had planned. Further, fencers Naziya Shaik and Beni Quebha pledged their support for the cycling movement, saying that it is spreading much-needed awareness in Tier 1 and Tier 2/3 cities about the harmful effects of obesity and air pollution.
"This is my first time cycling in front of such a large crowd. Being a part of it makes me very happy. Fit India Sundays on Cycle is a great initiative to make people aware of lifestyle diseases like obesity and air pollution. It was great to see people enjoying a variety of physical activities, including Zumba, yoga, rope skipping, badminton, and net cricket, all in one place. The morning began with high energy, and the message was clear to everyone that we have to adopt an active lifestyle to remain fit and healthy," said Beni Quebha, a National Games medallist in fencing.
At the Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW), more than a hundred riders from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) actively participated in the Fit India Sundays on Cycles. The event was planned in conjunction with the cycling training camp for the Indian Railway that is currently taking place at PLW. The SAI Media press release added that this successful event not only promoted physical fitness but also reflected the RSPB's unwavering commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among its athletes and employees. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) organizes the "Fit India Sundays on Cycle" event with the help of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation, My Bikes, and MY Bharat. The cycling campaign is held simultaneously in the capitals of all States and Union Territories, SAI Regional Centers, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centers (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India centers (KICs) for individuals of all ages.
